Communication Folder
Your child’s communication folder is a tool to help keep all of us organized. This folder will contain important information so that it’s available at a glance whenever you need (passwords, logins, schedules, contact information, etc). It also has clearly marked pockets and pouches to keep everything safe and organized throughout the year (take home, bring back).
Please check your child’s folder every single day for important information. Assessments, notes, classwork, and all other important documents will be transported through this folder.
Snacks
In our class we encourage healthy snacks each day. Students are given a morning snack break every day.
*ALL SNACKS MUST BE NUT FREE. Please put your child's snack in a container with their name or write directly on the product! Keep their snack in a different container from their lunch! **We encourage reusable containers if possible :) *NO WATER BOTTLES MAY BE KEPT IN THE CLASSROOM FOR SAFETY REASONS! Students may use the water fountain right next door to our classroom as needed or keep their water bottles in their lockers.
Snack donations are welcome! We are always looking for nut-free non-perishable snacks for students who forget their snack (pretzels, animal crackers, etc.)
Notes and Money
Please send all notes and money in sealed, labeled envelopes. Money that does not come in a sealed envelope will be sent home. This is to prevent any miscommunication or misallocation of funds. Please try to always send exact change if sending in cash. Thank you for understanding!
Birthday Parties
It is school policy that birthday party invitations may not be distributed in school unless the entire class is invited. I understand that it is very difficult to include everyone and that is okay. Please remember that if you would like to get in touch with another student's' parent/guardian, you must send in a note asking them to contact you and supply your contact information. Unfortunately, I am unable to distribute contact information at this time. Thank you for your cooperation!
Absent notes
A note must accompany your child when they return to school. Thank you for your help!
Chaperoning Field Studies
All clearances must be on file and up to date with the office in order to attend a field trip. Clearances must be handed in prior to the field trip and should be on file at the beginning of the school year! If you have any questions in regards to clearances, please contact Nicole Gofman at [email protected].
Behavior
Our school rules are to be safe, be responsible, and be respectful. In our classroom, these rules will be explained and modeled so we can put them into action. Positive behavior will be frequently rewarded in various forms such as classroom praise, verbal encouragement, and "Ferry Funds," which is a classroom reward system. Students can earn Ferry Funds by being safe, responsible, and/ or respectful in any manner. They can also being rewarded anytime they are seen doing the right thing or being a good friend. Students can save these funds and trade them in for prizes in the classroom including but not limited to switching seats with a friend, wearing slippers, sitting in one of our comfortable chairs, and having extra iPad time.
Our school uses a school wide positive behavior management system through "trailblazers." Trailblazers are given out randomly by ANY of the staff members to ANY of the students when they are caught doing something kind or good. The student has to walk to the office with their Trailblazer card where they will draw a number to determine where on the school wide board it will go. As soon as there are 10 cards in a row, those 10 lucky students will be chosen for a very special prize and the board is cleared and restarted!
Conduct Referrals are given in first grade when students endanger the safety of others or cause frequent disruptions to the learning environment. Parents will always be contacted when a Conduct Referral is issued.
Medicine/ Cough Drops
No cough drops or medicine may be sent into school or any other medications without a doctor’s note and should be sent immediately to the school nurse by a parent/guardian. Please notify teacher/nurse if sending in medications.
These items must be kept in the nurse's office.**
